Teacher Induction  Stage 2 – On-Site

The Teacher Induction process at Atlas has three stages. These are laid out in the Atlas Teacher Induction Pathway. Stage 2 is a pre-start date on-site induction meeting. It’s the main part of the induction process. It usually takes place on the Thursday before a teacher starts work, and it lasts for about 2 hours.

When they come into the school, the teacher first completes and signs all paperwork including their:

  • Contract
  • Employee Information Form
  • Garda Vetting Form

They are given a tour of the school, meet key Academic and Operations staff members, get an introduction to our Course Guides, run through a typical week at Atlas, and get a first look at the Teachers’ Rooms and the supports that are available when they start work. They’ll be given their teaching schedule for their first week, given all relevant class profile information and course materials, and have an introduction to using an interactive touchscreen effectively.

One key component of this part of the induction is to show teachers sample completed course guides, Weekly Plans of Work and registers. We’ll explain why, when and how this paperwork must be completed. We’ll also direct teachers to the CPD Noticeboard and the rack of bite-size CPD leaflets including the Top 10 Tips for a Newly-Appointed Teacher. This particular leaflet will help consolidate some of the information that is covered in the induction.

To wrap up Stage 2, we ask the teacher to complete and sign the Induction Checklist. We’ll try to deal with any outstanding questions there and then, though can also make a note of them for the Induction Stage 3 Check-In that is scheduled for a day and time towards the end of their first week of teaching at Atlas.
